Names of God: ★ El Roy : The God Who Sees ( El Ro’ / El Roi )

El Roy (The God Who Sees)

  • Original Word:  ro’iy  רֳאִי
  • Strong’s #H7210
  • Variations: El Ro’ ,  ‘Ēl – Rō’ı̄,

She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.” – Genesis 16:13 (NIV) –

Then she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, “You are God Who Sees”; for she said, “Have I not even here [in the wilderness] remained alive after seeing Him [who sees me with understanding and compassion]?” – Genesis 16:13 (AMP) –

The all-present God. He sees. He knows. He Loves. He Cares. El Roi sees past present and future.

El Roi means first of all that he sees, than it implies a sense of His presence, and it certainly includes an assurance of His perfect care and provision.

No matter where I am, I am never out of God’s sight.

Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, On those who hope for His lovingkindness, To deliver their soul from death And to keep them alive in famine. – Psalm 33:18-19 –

Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the dawn, If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, Even there Your hand will lead me, And Your right hand will lay hold of me. If I say, “Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, And the light around me will be night,” Even the darkness is not dark to You, And the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to You. Psalms 139:7-12 (NASB) –

This is a plain indication of God’s righteous judgment so that you will be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which indeed you are suffering. For after all it is only just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, when He comes to be glorified in His saints on that day, and to be marveled at among all who have believed—for our testimony to you was believed.  – 2 Thessalonians 1:5-10 (NASB)  –

In our affliction or hurt we can find healing, as Kay Arthur said, “Where does healing begin? With the recognition of El Roi, the God who sees. … … The first time we meet God in the Word as El Roi we find Him telling Hagar to go back and deal with the situation.

… … After you realize that He sees, you need to know that in His sovereignty He permitted it.

… … These truths (which we find in God’s name and character) will be your comfort, your healing, your sanity, your hope, your protection against the fiery darts of the accusing liar.

Names of God: ★ The Name of The Lord! – (To Know God)

The NAME of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous runs into it and is safe. – Proverbs 18:10 (NASB) –

Let them praise the NAME of the Lord, For His NAME alone is exalted; His glory is above earth and heaven. – Psalm 148:13 (NASB) –

And those who know Your NAME will put their trust in You,For You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You. – Psalm 9:10 (NASB) –

“… the people who know their God will display strength and take action.” – Daniel 11:32b

Hallowed be Your name! – To hallow a thing is to make it holy or to set it apart to be exalted as being worthy of absolute devotion. To hallow the name of God is to regard Him with complete devotion and loving admiration. God’s name is of the utmost importance (Neh 9:5); therefore we ought reserve it a position of grave significance in our minds and hearts. We should never take His name lightly (Exd 20:7; Lev 22:32), but always rejoice in it and think deeply upon its true meaning.

” The names of God are windows through which His character is seen.” James Montgomery Boice

“We are warranted in using all the various names of God, for each has its own beauty and majesty, and we must reverence each by its holy use as well as by abstaining from taking it in vain.” Spurgeon

“Ignorance is worst when it amounts to ignorance of God, and knowledge is best when it exercises itself upon the name of God. This most excellent knowledge leads to the most excellent grace of faith. By knowing his name is also meant an experimental acquaintance with the attributes of God, which are anchors to hold the soul from drifting.” – Spurgeon

“Who is among you that fears the Lord, That obeys the voice of His servant, That walks in darkness and has no light? Let him trust in the NAME of the Lord and rely on his God.” – Isaiah 50:10 (NASB) –

“This is eternal life, that they may KNOW You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” – John 17:3 (NASB) –

“that I may KNOW Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death;  in order that I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.” – Philippians 3:10-11 (NASB) –

“Some boast in chariots and some in horses, But we will boast in the NAME of the Lord, our God.” – Psalms 20:7 (NASB) –

A NAME represents a person’s character. …

… God’s name represents His character, His attributes, His nature. To know His NAME is to KNOW Him. To boast in His NAME is to have confidence in who He is!

Psalms 20 (NASB)
1 May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble!
May the NAME of the God of Jacob set you securely on high!
2 May He send you help from the sanctuary
And support you from Zion!
3 May He remember all your meal offerings
And find your burnt offering acceptable!
4 May He grant you your heart’s desire And fulfill all your counsel!
5 We will sing for joy over your victory,
And in the NAME of our God we will set up our banners.
May the Lord fulfill all your petitions.
6 Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed;
He will answer him from His holy heaven
With the saving strength of His right hand.
7 Some boast in chariots and some in horses,
But we will boast in the NAME of the Lord, our God.
8 They have bowed down and fallen,
But we have risen and stood upright.
9 Save, O Lord; May the King answer us in the day we call.
